Start Here / How Lessons Work
Welcome to the Red Barn! We offer friendly, personal music instruction for children, teens, and adults in a warm and encouraging environment.
1. Choose an Instrument
Not sure where to begin? Take a look at our Instruments page to see what we currently offer.
If you are choosing an instrument for a child, we are happy to help you decide what may be a good fit based on age, interests, and experience.
2. Choose a Teacher
Visit our Faculty page to meet our teachers, read their biographies, and learn about their instruments and teaching backgrounds.
You are welcome to request a particular teacher, or we can help match you with someone based on your interests and schedule.
3. Send an Inquiry
When you are ready, complete our Lessons Inquiry form.
Tell us:
- the student’s name and age
- the instrument you are interested in
- your preferred teacher, if you have one
- your scheduling needs
- any questions you would like us to know about
We will follow up about teacher availability and scheduling.
4. Try Your First Lesson
Your first lesson gives you a chance to meet the teacher and see whether the match feels right.
If you decide not to continue after the first lesson, the trial lesson is free.
If you begin with a new teacher and the match does not work out, contact us within 48 hours. We will help arrange another teacher or provide a full refund.
5. Register
Once you decide to continue, we will complete registration and arrange payment.
Red Barn has two 17-week semesters and follows the Amherst school-year calendar. Students may begin at any point during the semester, with tuition prorated when appropriate.
After the fourth week, students who continue are asked to complete the semester.
Adult students may arrange lessons by the month or by the semester.
