The Red Barn welcomes singer and educator Dorothy Cresswell. Dorothy is a retired Kindergarten teacher of 30 years and former mentor teacher at Leverett Elementary School. She uses songs and her guitar to engage children and get everyone involved and singing. Dorothy is New England Regional Co-Representative to Pete Seeger’s international Children’s Music Network and will be presenting at this year’s conference in Hyannis in October. Her CD, Curious Songs for Curious Kids is available on Amazon.
Dorothy is very busy, with a regular series on Amherst Media Community TV called The Curious Giraffe. She offers the Happy Valley Children’s Chorus for ages 6 to 10, and the Singing Giraffe Music Class group for Pre-K’s and K’s. To find out more, visit her website at DorothyCresswell.org.

- Ages 6 to 10
- Tuesdays, 4 to 5 PM
- First Congregational Church, 165 Main St, Amherst – MAP
We sing old and new tunes about serious and silly topics. Life needs both and music reflects life. We hold a fall and spring session that ends with a performance. For new singers being part of the larger group increases confidence. For more confident singers there are opportunities for solos and small group numbers.

What people are saying
“When someone makes awesome songs and teaches them really great, you just have to say thank you. Of course! So we will! Thank you! Sam Hunt, 9 years old
“The girls (8 and 10) absolutely loved singing for you. I hope they join again next spring. I really love your “Love Makes a Family” song. My 4-year-old repeats that line all the time. It’s been lovely hearing your songs sung around our house for the past few months. Jeni, a mom
“My daughter had a blast and cannot wait to do it again. Thanks for giving the gift of music to her. It is such a special contribution to her life. Stephanie
“We were so impressed with Sunday’s performance by your talented (and brave!) students, Dorothy. The kids were amazing – their enthusiasm was both beautiful and contagious. And they all knew the words! It was equally wonderful to watch you in action. You are still an incredible teacher – thank you for continuing to share your joy with Valley children. Jeanne and Earle Shumway
